In the Lost & Found

Reading and discovering books, new and old.

About Me

I’m Ali (she/her), a 25-year-old Chicana living in the desert.

I like reading (obviously), writing, going to concerts, using too many parentheses, and driving ’round until I get lost and finding my way back.

In the Lost and Found will feature posts on what I’ve been reading, what I’m up to in life, my favorite things, and more. I look forward to figuring it out along the way.

Some of My Favorite Things

Books: East of Eden, Gods of Jade and Shadow, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Phantom of the Opera, Hangsaman, The Haunting of Hill House, Beloved, Pride and Prejudice, Foolish Hearts, Speak, White Oleander, Rain of Gold, Strange the Dreamer, Salt Slow, Vita Nostra, The Three-Body Problem, The Only Good Indians

T.V. Shows: My Mad Fat Diary, Derry Girls, PEN15, Friday Night Lights, Fleabag, Pushing Daisies, Doctor Who (9 is still my favorite)

Movies: Me Without You, The Crow, East of Eden, Pride and Prejudice (the Keira Knightley version),The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, anything and everything Ghibli…

Musicians & Bands: I won’t even go here because there are too many, but my blog name is an Elliott Smith song.

Back at it with book blogging! Just finished rea Back at it with book blogging!

Just finished reading Devil House by John Darnielle. I was super excited for this one, but it turned out to be another case of false-expectations (it's not horror). I appreciated the examination of true crime storytellers and those who consume true crime, especially with the rise in popularity of true crime the past few years. It just took much too long to get there with it's convoluted writing style that never seems to tie everything together. Not to mention the literally unreadable-to-me and incomprehensible fourth part. Why did the publishers choose that font, why was it even included? 🤨 An interesting start that fell flat in the end. ⭐️⭐️

I have been frightened half out of my foolish wits, but I have somehow earned this joy; I have been waiting for it for so long."

I haven't kept up on any book blogging etc lately, but I think I'll start putting my favorite reads up here to keep some sort of track. I think Shirley Jackson is now my favorite author. I read this earlier in the month and haven't stopped thinking about it. Her writing isn't for everyone, but I LOVE the two books I've read from her so far (Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle).

#sowecanglow by Leesa Cross-Smith 💖 I haven't decided how I feel about it yet, but it's really reminding me how magical I and all of my friends were as teenagers, and now as adults. All the magic girl vibes! I was inspired by the story Girlheart Cake with Glitter Frosting to grab some of the magical things I could find in my apartment. I totally did cry reading it- just a list of music, movies, artists, and a bunch of other stuff that I ABSORBED into my personality as an adolescent. Who knew a three-page list of things could be so relatable?! 💫
