I am not really one to plan out the books that I read each month, but this August will be a bit different as there are a couple of readathons I am hoping to take part in.
Last April, my best friend and I decided to participate in the Magical Readthon on our own as a fun way to discover books to read and get through books on our shelves. I stumbled upon the next round of the Magical Readathon and we decided to participate again on our own for completion purposes.
If you don’t know about the Magical Readthon, you basically pick a magical career and take the “tests”, which are book prompts. For this round, you have to get certain grades on the tests in order of prompt, (O, E, and A). I decided on the Potioneer career with Animagus training. There are a total of ten books…so hopefully I’ll be able to get through them all!
Requirement: O in Potions
A// Book with the word “sky in the title or sky on the cover: Removing this from my list because I have learned some new information about the author. See this twitter thread for more info. A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne
E// Author name starts with the letter “D”: Stella by Starlight by Sharon M. Draper (#OwnVoices)
O// Book over 450 pages: The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin (#OwnVoices)
Requirement: E in Herbology
A// Flowers on cover: The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi (#OwnVoices)
E// Book that might be impactful: The Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (#OwnVoices)
Requirement: A in Arithmancy
A// Read a nonfiction: Mean by Myriam Gurba (#OwnVoices)
Requirement: A in Care of Magical Creatures
A// Fire on cover or in title: Minor Feelings by Cathy Park Hong (#OwnVoices)
Requirement: O in Transfiguration
A// Animal on cover or in title: The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones (#OwnVoices)
E// Book with dragons or fire on cover or title: Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke
O// Read a hardcover: Goddess in the Machine by Lora Beth Johnson
Bonus
Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars by Kai Cheng Thom (#OwnVoices)
I am also going to try to participate in the Meteor Shower Readathon featuring books by Anna-Marie McLemore and Tehlor Kay Mejia in anticipation for their new book, Miss Meteor, which is coming out this fall. I am so excited to be a part of the blog tour for the new book (my very first blog tour!!) because the book has been on my wishlist since it was announced.
The only book from either of the authors that I have ever read is Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore, so I’m going to try to get through more of their books before reading Miss Meteor. I probably won’t end up following the schedule, but hopefully I can get a lot of them finished within the next two months. I already have a stack of books waiting for me at the library completely separate from these readathons…so who knows what I’ll end up finishing! Wish me luck! *sweats in corner*
What are you excited to read this upcoming August? Have you read anything from my TBR or do you have any of them on your shelf? Let me know in the comments!
Sounds like a great list of books. Appreciate that this Harry Potter themed readathon is being appropriately called out – thank you for standing up for trans rights! I’m super excited to read Minor Feelings when I can get my hands on it.
Yes, I’m really trying to keep books by trans authors on my radar to show support. Hope you like Minor Feelings, I’ve heard great things so it should be good!
